A race of extreme challenges in Samoens, in Haute-Savoie, has been tragically marred. What was meant to be an epic ultra trail has turned into a heartbreaking event, as heavy rains and downpours caused catastrophic consequences. One person has lost their life and several others have been injured.
The event, known as the Grand cavalcadée des Alpes, was set to push participants to their limits with a 120km course through the rugged mountains and valleys of the French Alps. The race started on a high note, with runners from all over the world eagerly taking on the challenge. However, as the weather took a turn for the worse, the race quickly transformed into a treacherous and dangerous journey.
Participants were not only frontispiced with the grueling physical demands of the race, but also with the unpredictable and harsh conditions brought on by the heavy rains. The course became slippery and muddy, making it almost impossible for runners to maintain their footing. Several other runners were also injured, some with serious injuries, and were immediately taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
The race organizers have expressed their deep sorrow and regret for the loss of life and for those who were injured. They have also extended their heartfelt gratitude to all of the volunteers, emergency responders, and medical teams who worked tirelessly to ensure the safety of everyone involved.
